Who We Are

The domestic and sexual violence attorney at VPLC addresses the legal needs of victims of domestic or intimate partner violence through training and technical assistance to legal aid and private attorneys, advocates and other service providers, legislative advocacy and direct legal representation in limited situations.

Trainings in Virginia to staff to staff of victim’s services programs, members of bar associations, and employees of other organizations that serve victims of domestic and sexual violence and their families are a mainstay of the domestic and sexual violence attorney’s work at VPLC.  The domestic and sexual violence attorney travels statewide to inform these partners about laws relating to domestic and sexual violence, provide updates about new Virginia laws that become effective on July 1st of each year and the federal options that are available to immigrant victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Because it is a statewide support organization for local legal aid programs throughout Virginia, VPLC does not generally handle individual cases. For assistance with issues where representation may be necessary, call 1-866-534-5243 to contact your local legal aid office.
