Who We Are
YWCA of Central Virginia provides a domestic violence emergency safe shelter to women - 18 and over and their children - who are victims of domestic violence. A 30-day, 25-bed emergency shelter is available for women and children in crisis. This is a full-service shelter offering free food, housing, and clothing to victims. Also available on site are caseworkers, child caseworkers, support groups, parenting classes, and free legal consultation and transportation. The shelter has an extensive children's program, including caseworkers for children, parenting classes, and babysitting services.

Prevention Center - The mission of the Domestic Violence Prevention Center is to provide information, education, referrals, counseling, advocacy, support, and empowerment for victims and their children; to educate and change attitudes and behaviors of those who batter; to collaborate with other community agencies to improve victim response and to foster greater community awareness.
