Who We Are
Kempsville Community Recreation Center provides recreational programs and services for area residents in Virginia Beach. The multi-purpose gymnasium area will accommodate basketball, volleyball, wheelchair basketball and many other activities. A four-wall racquetball court and an exercise room have been incorporated into the complex, and a central dressing room serves multi-activity areas. Cash, check or credit card are acceptable methods of payment.
ADULT ACTIVITIES PROGRAM--Offers use of creative arts room, adult and senior citizens classrooms and meeting rooms, a gathering room for large meetings or banquet can be divided for smaller groups. A demonstration and catering kitchen is available to facilitate classes and banquets. Fitness class weight lifting, gymnastics, exercise and gym, basketball, volleyball clinic, bowling, and judo.
AQUATICS-- houses a 6 lane, 25 meter indoor pool and is designed to accommodate physical and age limitations, and will offer structured and unstructured activities, instructional activities and special events. Bleacher seating is provided for spectators. Aquatic Climbing wall is also in this facility.
PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM--A 196 seat thrust stage theatre will accommodate the physical needs of drama, dance, music and public assembly. On the 2nd floor will be light and sound booths, make-up rooms and mezzanine. The 3rd floor will offer practical instruction in scenery and prop construction and stage rigging equipment for sets. Technical workshops, seminars, and apprentice training programs will be offered.
THERAPEUTIC PROGRAM--Therapeutic recreation and instruction programs are offered for the physically and mentally handicapped. Intake, evaluation and placement screening is held. Swimming, bowling and games are offered physically handicapped as well as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair square dancing and track and field events. Emotionally disturbed and learning disabled playground and archery, gymnastics, bowling, swimming classes are held. Bowling for the blind is offered, and bowling, exercise and gymnastics for the hearing impaired.
