Falls Prevention for Older Adults

Northern Virginia Falls Prevention Alliance offers programs and practices aimed at reducing the risk for falls and fall-related injuries in older adults thus maximizing independence and improving quality of life.  Alliance members work collaboratively to assure the availability of access to, and utilization of a coordinated and comprehensive system of community-based falls prevention programs and practices in the region.  Goals include

Community Education - To improve the fall prevention knowledge and behaviors of older adults through community education and awareness efforts.

Capacity - To establish a sufficient number of  falls prevention programs

Infrastructure - To create a system which identifies needs, existing resources and gaps in the falls prevent program

Policy - To provide information resulting in legislation, regulations and policies that address falls prevention

Educational Resources - To create easy and accessible tools for healthcare providers, older adults and caregivers

Data - To capture falls-related data
